Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

Monty Python’s Life of Brian is a surreal biblical black comedy released in 1979.

I didn’t see it back then — I was only four years old — but I probably encountered this masterpiece in the late eighties or early nineties. And I’ve loved every second of it ever since.

What still amazes me is how much of what the film satirizes feels just as relevant today. Technically, this isn’t my favorite music genre, but the sheer absurdity of it makes Life of Brian something special. Years ago, I made it my Easter ritual: if not watching the whole film, at least spinning the song (or, these days, the YouTube video).

So yeah, the movie rules. Monty Python rules. And if, for some weird reason, you’ve never heard of it — check it out! Start with the music video, but definitely don’t miss the film. It should be available on various streaming services and probably as a relatively cheap DVD, too.
