Behemoth, a blackened death metal band from Poland — and one of my all-time favorites.
Their 2014 release The Satanist is not only their best work, but also one of the few albums I consider among the greatest ever made by any band.
I was most likely introduced to them by my friend Lord K from The Project Hate, who knew my taste well and was confident I’d appreciate Behemoth too. This must have been in late 2002, since the first album I got to hear was Zos Kia Cultus, which had just come out. I wasn’t fully sold at first, or at least not as strongly as later — but everything changed the following year when I saw them live. Everything clicked, and I’ve been a fan ever since. And have been lucky enough to witness them again live in 2025.
Since 2002 they’ve released one killer album after another, along with a series of fantastic videos. And yes, I’ve written a few Behemoth quotes next to my paintings over the years, and even painted their name in 2015.
