ELEGY (RELAPSE, 1996)
Better Unborn is the opening track of Elegy, the third Amorphis album.
This was the first Amorphis album that was a bit more melodic, less death metal, and had more variety in songwriting — at least compared to the first two albums. But out of the early records, this one, in my opinion, also resembles the most the Amorphis we hear today. Although the newer stuff is better.
Anyway, when Elegy was released, I was both surprised by the direction it took as well as liking the production on it. It sounded heavy yet somewhat different. So yeah, I really loved it, even back then. I remember listening to it a lot during the summer of 1996. Come to think of it, I did write some lyric lines from these songs next to my pieces during that summer.
