ACTIVE: 1997-2007
Bitch Alert was a punk rock band from Helsinki, Finland. During their ten years of existence, they released four albums.
I think I first saw them while they were promoting their debut album in 2001, and I’ve been a fan ever since. The band really struck a nerve — in a positive way. Catchy riot grrrl music with a real in-your-face attitude.
It probably helped that around the same time I also started listening to Velcra, another heavier band with a female vocalist. Together these bands offered a fresh alternative to all the death and black metal I was listening to a lot at that point in my life.
Anyway, Bitch Alert quit without any official announcement in 2007 and haven’t done any comeback or reunion gigs since. Fortunately, I still have a few of their CDs, and the rest of their material is available on streaming services. This band is definitely worth checking out. I’ve used a few quotes from the band next to my paintings and have sketched their name several times as well — all of which are presented here.
