ULTRAVIOLENCE (INTERSCOPE, 2014)
Brooklyn Baby is a song by Lana Del Rey from her third studio album. While the album is packed with memorable songs, this one is my favorite.
The lyrics offer Del Rey’s sharp, satirical take on New York’s hipster subculture — a world that, admittedly, isn’t all that familiar to me. But honestly, that doesn’t matter at all. The song’s mood, melody, and attitude are what truly resonate with me. It’s got that mix of nostalgia Del Rey is known for and yes, the dreamlike atmosphere which makes it impossible to ignore.
Sometimes, a song just hits you in a way that demands a creative response. For me, “Brooklyn Baby” was one of those tracks. The moment I heard it, I knew I wanted to capture it in graffiti lettering.
