Firespawn could be called a Swedish death metal supergroup, after all its members are known from other killer local bands.
LG Petrov from Entombed was their vocalist until his far too early passing in 2021. If you ask me, his performance in Firespawn was even stronger than on the later Entombed albums: much more growling than yelling, so to speak.
Their music is a perfect mix of old-school death metal from both Florida and Sweden — the two defining regions of the 90s. They’ve released three studio albums so far, all of them absolute perfection.
When LG passed away, many of us thought this would also mean the end for the band. But in 2025 they announced their return, with their close friend Jörgen Sandström taking over vocal duties. Honestly, I don’t think anyone else could’ve done it better.
I’m really looking forward to their future gigs — and hopefully, new music too.
