ACTIVE: 1988-
One of the legendary Swedish death metal bands and originators of the “Swedish sound”, so to speak.
I loved this band in the nineties, but for some reason pretty much stopped following them when their singer Jörgen Sandström left the band and took over bass duties in Entombed in 1995. I was really disappointed by this, since Mr. Sandström is one of the best death metal growlers in the world, and I thought we’d never hear his guttural voice again.
Come 1999 and the formation of The Project Hate MCMXCIX — things took another turn. But more about that in a separate post.
Grave has been active more or less all the time, and in 1995 their guitarist Ola took over the vocal duties — and to be honest, he does a pretty good job. After I recovered from the shock of Mr. Sandström’s departure, I’ve been able to listen to and even enjoy their music again.
And just recently Grave announced that they’ll be performing with the original lineup at various festivals in 2026. Looking forward to that!
