I Wanna Be Somebody is the first track from the debut album by W.A.S.P.
In the late 90s, when the originally intended opening track was added to the reissues, I Wanna Be Somebody became the second track — the first one being Animal (Fuck Like a Beast). And I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that these two are the most popular, or at least the best-known, songs by the band. The video for the song ain’t too bad either, since it succeeds being somewhat different compared to all other, mostly cheesy heavy metal videos of the 80s.
The song, as its title suggests, is about wanting to become someone — to be recognized. That’s probably a goal most artists pursue when starting their career. Some achieve it, most don’t. But what do I know, except that I Wanna Be Somebody truly is a great song, and one of my favorites by W.A.S.P. as well. So here’s a sketch to go with it.
