ACTIVE: 1973–2023
KISS is a hard rock band from the States which was active for 50 years.
The band recorded a shitload of albums during their existence — and a lot of them are actually pretty darn good. My soft spot is their 1980’s releases.
The very first song from them I remember hearing was the title track from Lick It Up, released in 1983. I think I heard it in 1984 though, since I also remember seeing adverts for their Animalize album around the same time. Heaven’s on Fire was the one that really got my attention — to the point where I started asking around how I could record it or even hear more. Since I was just nine years old, that wasn’t so easy.
Fortunately, a new kid had just moved into our neighborhood. I soon realized he was a) the same age as me, and b) a vivid KISS fan. So I went to ring his doorbell to see if he was home — and if he’d be able to help me. He was.
That’s how my life as a heavy metal fan really started… and how I met my best childhood friend.
