Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey? Yeah, you read that right. Not exactly heavy metal, right? Even so, I really love her music… and videos!

And I got into her music through a rather unusual path. You see, I’ve been hooked on David Lynch movies and TV series for years. The general atmosphere and moodiness I first encountered in Twin Peaks, and later in films like Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, is something that Lana’s music (and some of her videos too) captures perfectly. I get the same kind of vibes from her songs as I do from Lynch’s films.

In fact, Lana even recorded her own version of the Blue Velvet title track in 2012. I first noticed it on TV, since she performed it for an H&M ad that was on heavy rotation back then. I was impressed by the song, but only started really diving into her music a few years later when I finally began using Spotify more regularly.

Lana has made a lot of music, and I’m still working my way through her first four albums. I still consider her debut, Born to Die, the best one. Since the music is relatively mellow, I’ve found it to be perfect background music for sketching and painting. Speaking of which, I’ll be posting a few Lana-graffities on a separate article.
