STOMP 442 (ELEKTRA, 1995)
This track is truly kick-ass and it’s one of my favorite tracks by Anthrax.
It’s from their Stomp 442 album, which I don’t think is one of their most well-known releases — or at least it didn’t get great reviews when it first came out. For a while, it was also pretty hard to find in record stores. That’s not the case anymore, and even if it were, the album is available on most streaming services. I bought it as soon as it was released, because I absolutely loved its predecessor, Sound of White Noise, which came out a few years earlier.
I have to admit, when Anthrax fired their long-time singer Joey Belladonna back in 1992, I thought that was the end of the band. But I was wrong. They brought in John Bush from Armored Saint… and found a whole new energy in the process. So yeah, Stomp 442 — it was, and still is, a really solid thrash metal album. Even better, it features a few guitar solos by a close friend of the band, Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), who also plays the leads on “Riding Shotgun.”
I’ve written a few quotes from this album next to my pieces over the years, but I’ve never actually sketched or painted any of the song titles — until now. This one was drawn in 2025, and there’s at least one more piece related to this album on the way.
