White Zombie

White Zombie was a band I really started listening to only when they were nearly done as a band — this was in early 1996, a year after they released Astro-Creep 2000.

Sure, I had heard them before, but at first I wasn’t that impressed. In the early nineties I had just discovered death metal and wasn’t ready for anything “mellower”, except for a few long-time favorites from the 80’s.

By 1996 I’d moved into my first apartment and had a bit more time — and maybe a better mindset too. Around then a friend told me to give White Zombie another chance. The album was La Sexorcisto, and this time I was hooked. Naturally, I borrowed Astro-Creep 2000 right after that, and it was just as good, maybe even better.

I also really dug the cover art that the band’s mastermind Rob Zombie had created — and naturally, I painted some of it on my graffities. I used a lot of various quotes from the band as well, for example the Cosmic Monsters Inc. on the sketch is a song from their La Sexorcisto album.
