Special Feature Vol. 4

Entombed

Entombed, formed in 1987, is a legendary band from Sweden. Along with Dismember, Grave and Unleashed, they are referred to as one of the “big four” of Swedish death metal.

Ever since I first heard Entombed’s second album Clandestine in 1992, I was hooked. But my personal favorites from the band are the unholy trinity from 1991–1997: Clandestine, Wolverine Blues, and To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth. Sure, they’ve released quite a few killer albums after, but these
are the ones that mean the most to me. I have to admit that the opening track from their debut album, Left Hand Path, as well as the Chief Rebel Angel from Morning Star, also rank high among my favorites.

Even back in the ’90s I was writing many quotes from their songs next to my pieces, and at least once I painted an actual “Entombed” piece together with Dams, a crew mate from HRC.

Entombed is also the band I’ve witnessed live the most so far — with the Finnish band Velcra coming in
a very close second.

ABOUT | Special Features

These are collections of artwork based on one selected band, all gathered into a single file, a book, per artist, without descriptions for individual pieces. Some — or even all — of the artworks presented in these features have previously been shown here, accompanied by descriptive texts and additional photos (usually of graffiti based on the sketches).

For a few bands that mean more to me than most, I’ve naturally created more artwork, so it felt like a good idea to give those bands a bit more exposure than the majority of the content you see here.

If you’re new to the concept: these are graffiti-style sketches I’ve drawn, based on selected songs, shown here in the same order they appear on each album.
