Special Feature Vol. 5

Pantera

Pantera, formed in 1981, was (or is) a heavy metal band from USA. They had a long career that came to an end in 2003. I found the band in 1992, right after the release of Vulgar Display of Power. The moment I heard it, I was in total awe. It was — and still is — one of the best albums I’ve ever listened to. Not long after that, I picked up their previous record, Cowboys from Hell, which these days is considered as their official debut album.

Pantera quickly became a band that everyone in our crew, HRC, loved at the time. So every time I listen to those two albums, my mind goes straight back to the summer of ’92 —a time filled with constantly discovering new music, painting a lot of graffiti, and just enjoying the regular life of a teenager to the full.

I was lucky enough to see the band live twice — first in 1992, when they opened for Megadeth, and in 1994 as headliners promoting Far Beyond Driven album. Naturally I went to see their reunion gig in 2025 as well.

ABOUT | Special Features

These are collections of artwork based on one selected band, all gathered into a single file, a book, per artist, without descriptions for individual pieces. Some — or even all — of the artworks presented in these features have previously been shown here, accompanied by descriptive texts and additional photos (usually of graffiti based on the sketches).

For a few bands that mean more to me than most, I’ve naturally created more artwork, so it felt like a good idea to give those bands a bit more exposure than the majority of the content you see here.

If you’re new to the concept: these are graffiti-style sketches I’ve drawn, based on selected songs, shown here in the same order they appear on each album.
