Special Feature Vol. 1

The Project Hate MCMXCIX

The Project Hate MCMXCIX is a swedish metal project led by Lord K. Philipson. He and vocalist Jörgen Sandström are the only permanent members since 1999 when the band was founded. Philipson writes the music, plays most instruments and brings in guest musicians around the world for each album.

I discovered the band in 2001 and was instantly hooked. The mix of deep growls, female vocals, heavy guitars and electronic elements felt unlike anything else, and their sharp anti-religious lyrics only strengthened the effect.

After finally finding their debut on CD, they became my all-time favourite — a position unchanged for over two decades. Through a few lucky coincidences I later befriended Mr. Philipson and have since contributed to their website, album covers and various illustrations. And because graffiti has always been close to my blackened heart, it was clear from the start that my Thank You For The Music project would highlight a few bands more prominently — beginning with this one.

ABOUT | Special Features

These are collections of artwork based on one selected band, all gathered into a single file, a book, per artist, without descriptions for individual pieces. Some — or even all — of the artworks presented in these features have previously been shown here, accompanied by descriptive texts and additional photos (usually of graffiti based on the sketches).

For a few bands that mean more to me than most, I’ve naturally created more artwork, so it felt like a good idea to give those bands a bit more exposure than the majority of the content you see here.

If you’re new to the concept: these are graffiti-style sketches I’ve drawn, based on selected songs, shown here in the same order they appear on each album.
